The Role
Year Team Leaders (YTLs) at Shrewsbury City Campus play a pivotal role in driving high-quality teaching and learning across their year group. As instructional leaders, they are responsible for ensuring consistently excellent classroom practice within their teams, actively monitoring teaching quality, and leading professional development to build teaching capacity.
Responsibilities:
Leading Staff and Students
The Year Team Leader will:
lead a culture of excellence ensuring staff and students thrive;
take an active role in providing professional development support for their team ensuring professional growth is effective and sustained;
deliver and monitor the impact of the curriculum, making developments as required;
monitor student progress and attainment ensuring all students make good progress;
model and uphold effective relationships with all staff and students to support positive outcomes for all;
develop highly effective strategies for communicating with the community;
lead in the assessment and integration of new students.
report to governors as necessary on the cohort’s achievements and areas for development, alongside a draft budget.
Leading Learning and Teaching
The Year Team Leader will:
support the staff team towards effective planning and delivery of the students’ curriculum, to include high quality learning, the integration of information technology and home learning;
develop a creative approach to teaching and learning across the curriculum which reflects and complements the school definition of High Quality Learning;
model excellent classroom practice and develop a culture of collaboration through peer coaching, team teaching, staff meetings and interactions with staff;
monitor and support the improvement of standards, progress and achievement across all subjects;
work in conjunction with other leaders to deliver, analyse and respond to assessment data.
Be responsible for an assigned class and the teaching of a UK Key Stage 1 / Key Stage 2 class (please refer to Primary Teacher job description)

The Year Team Leader:
is responsible to the Principal;
is a leadership position;
will work closely with the Vice Principal and the rest of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on operational matters relating all aspects of the School, and in the implementation of the school’s philosophy and policies and their review;
will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Curriculum, and other Heads of Department to ensure parity of provision, continuity and progression, and to share excellent practice;
will work closely with the SENCo, Learning Mentors and EAL teachers in meeting pupil needs and in the formulation and implementation of individual plans;
will work closely with the teachers and support staff in their year group team to provide teaching and learning of high quality.

The Year Team Leader will:
be familiar with the School’s Guiding Statements and values and the whole school Strategic Plan.
promote high quality teaching and learning throughout the year group;
be familiar with the contents of the Staff Guidelines and the School Policy Compendium and implement the procedures as appropriate;
commit fully to the School’s Professional Growth programme by managing their team and other members of staff as requested by the Principal/Vice Principal;
attend Professional Development (INSET and external) as determined by the Principal within the bounds set in the Employment Agreement;
fully commit to the School’s extra-curricular programmes;
communicate with students, colleagues and parents in a respectful and courteous manner in accordance with the paradigms established by the Principal;
set the tone for students in attendance, punctuality, appearance, dress, courtesy and professionalism.
