As part of our founding team, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Year 2 Teacher who is passionate about learning, child development, and fostering a smooth and secure transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.
Role Overview:
The Year 2 Teacher will lead a class of 6-7-year-old children through the final year of Key Stage 1, consolidating foundational skills while preparing pupils academically, emotionally, and socially for life in Key Stage 2. The role requires a confident practitioner who can inspire curiosity, independence, and high standards through a broad and balanced curriculum. The successful candidate will deliver creative and engaging lessons, nurture pupil wellbeing, and collaborate closely with colleagues and families to ensure children thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning:
- Plan and deliver high-quality, imaginative lessons in line with the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1.
- Use varied strategies to support all learners, including those with EAL, SEND, and advanced needs.
- Create a nurturing, purposeful, and stimulating environment that encourages exploration and risk-taking.
- Foster strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, with an emphasis on fluency, comprehension, and problem-solving.
- Use cross-curricular and thematic approaches to make learning engaging and meaningful.
- Ensure the effective deployment of teaching assistants and support staff in the classroom.
Assessment and Progress:
- Track pupil progress carefully using formative assessment, pupil conferencing, and observations.
- Produce written reports and meet with parents twice yearly to discuss attainment, progress, and wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of pupil development in all subject areas.
- Support transitions by providing thorough handovers and supporting documentation to the Year 3 team.
Pastoral and Behaviour:
- Promote emotional literacy, resilience, and kindness in line with the school’s values.
- Establish positive routines and high expectations for behaviour, effort, and respect.
- Provide pastoral support and communicate any concerns to relevant staff or parents in a timely manner.
- Lead and prepare pupils for two class assemblies per year.
Wider Contribution:
- Participate in staff meetings, training, INSET days, and appraisal processes.
- Contribute to the school’s extracurricular programme, events, and themed weeks.
- Attend and contribute to Open Mornings and community-facing events.
- Organise or assist with educational visits and enrichment activities.
- Ensure the classroom and shared spaces reflect high standards of display and learning environment.
Administration and Safety:
- Register pupils accurately and manage classroom routines efficiently.
- Organise trips in line with school policy and ensure risk assessments are completed.
- Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times.
- Manage class budgets and resources responsibly.
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Experience of teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally in Year 2.
- A strong understanding of how children learn at this developmental stage.
- Excellent classroom management and a warm, supportive teaching approach.
- Commitment to creative, active, and inquiry-based learning.
- Strong ICT skills and confidence using technology in the classroom.
- British nationality and the holder of a United Kingdom passport.
Desirable:
- Experience in British or international schools.
- Understanding of bilingual or multilingual learner needs.
- Interest in child-led learning, outdoor education, or project-based approaches.
- Basic Thai language skills or a willingness to engage with the host culture.
