About the Post
Wellington College Bangkok is seeking a dedicated and professional University Guidance Counsellor to join our Senior School team. This role is essential in supporting students and their families as they navigate the complexities of global university admissions. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Higher Education and Careers to provide comprehensive advice on discovering, applying to, and transitioning toward "best fit" post-secondary pathways.
The primary focus of this position involves guiding students in Years 12 and 13 through detailed university research, profile strengthening, and the management of application materials, including personal statements and scholarship procedures. Beyond individual advising, the Counsellor will play a key role in delivering our "Futures" curriculum—a weekly program dedicated to CV building, introspective thinking, and transition planning. The role also requires close collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team and Admissions to provide academic guidance regarding I/GCSE and A Level choices, ensuring students are strategically placed to meet their long-term career aspirations.
In addition to student-facing tasks, the University Guidance Counsellor will actively build and maintain strong relationships with university admissions teams worldwide. Responsibilities extend to organising university visits, coordinating the compilation of official recommendation letters, and contributing to the school's data analysis on higher education placements. We are looking for an individual who remains current with global admission trends and is prepared to represent the College at international conferences and fairs. This is an opportunity for a motivated professional to contribute to an exceptional support framework within a school fully committed to the welfare and future success of its students.
About Wellington College
Founded by Queen Victoria and opened in 1859, Wellington College was created to honour the memory of the first Duke of Wellington, who not only defeated Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo in 1815 but also went on to serve the country as peacetime Prime Minister. Over 160 years later, the Tatler calls Wellington ‘clearly a leader in the world of education’ and it is, without doubt, one of the top schools in the UK and across the globe.
About Wellington College Bangkok
Wellington College Bangkok opened in August 2018 and will grow to accommodate 1,600 girls and boys aged 2-18 years. The school’s facilities are world-class: the design and appearance are modern yet combine distinctive features of Wellington College, Berkshire and elements of Thai culture. The buildings are set amidst a large, beautiful, green campus in Krungthep Kreetha, a suburban area midway between Bangkok city and Bangkok International Airport, right next to the expansive greens and fairways of the Unico Grande Golf Course.
In our first year of operation, we filled classes from Pre-Nursery to Year 6. In September 2024, we opened our first Sixth Form classes, having expanded naturally year on year. Student numbers in the four-form-entry Junior School are very buoyant and, on the back of becoming the first school in the world to gain full COBIS Patron’s Accreditation within the first year of operation, and subsequent full membership of FOBISIA and CIS Accreditation, the College is already recognised as one of the best international schools anywhere. Our Senior School buildings are spectacular and extraordinary, confirming Wellington as the most dynamically progressive and educationally significant new school in the region.
It is a fundamental principle that every child can thrive when provided with outstanding, wide-ranging and open-ended opportunities to develop, explore and learn. Our students’ individual responses to these opportunities, shepherded by some of the best teachers in the world and supported by our uniquely dedicated pastoral teams, can set them on the path to extraordinary academic achievement - which, at Wellington, routinely goes hand-in-hand with excellence in performing and visual arts, sport and service to others. This is what it means for the whole child to flourish.
