Position Summary:

The Teacher of Physical Education and Swimming reports to the Head of PE and Sport. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, dedicated and knowledgeable teacher of PE and Swimming with experience of working in a primary school setting, who understands the value of developing the whole child (From Nursery to Year 6) through movement, play and sport.

They will have a strong understanding of early physical literacy, progressive skill development, and inclusive teaching practices that motivate all students to participate and succeed. As a reflective practitioner, they will be eager to learn, adapt and contribute to the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning both within the PE & Swimming department and across the wider school. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, collaboration and a growth mindset to their practice, maintaining excellent relationships with students, colleagues and parents.

Main school sports include basketball, football, badminton, gymnastics and swimming where our students compete in local and international competitions throughout South East Asia.

There is an expected commitment by all members of the department to coaching at least one team per term on the Sports Excellence Programme, this includes attending fixtures and tournaments held both after school during the week and some weekends, in Bangkok, Thailand or internationally.

The PE and Swimming specialist will create inclusive, engaging, and values driven learning experiences that nurture courage, self awareness, resilience, collaboration, imagination, and respect in every child.

The successful candidate will be a reflective and forward thinking practitioner who is committed to continually enhancing their own practice and contributing to the development of high quality teaching and learning across the school.

Responsibilities:

The PE & Swimming Specialist is responsible:

  • To the Head of PE and Sports who will be their Line Manager who will conduct their Professional Growth reviews;
  • For the planning and delivery of high quality, progressive PE and swimming lessons that promote fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and personal growth to students from Nursery classes to Year 6..
  • For creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where students are encouraged to take risks in their learning and celebrate effort as well as achievement.
  • Assess and track students progress in physical, social, and cognitive domains.
  • For leading and /supporting at least one school sports team per term, attending training sessions and fixtures as required, fostering wide participation and enjoyment.
  • For attending and contributing to school events and scheduled fixtures including those that take place after school, on weekends within Bangkok, Thailand or internationally.
  • For supporting the planning and delivery of house events, inter school competitions, and sports days.
  • For working collaboratively within the PE and Swimming Team and across year groups to develop a consistent, values based curriculum,
  • For ensuring appropriate transition and sporting events, in liaison with the Riverside Campus, take place successfully.
  • For actively participating in professional learning and reflection, to model self awareness and continuous improvement.

Task:

The Primary School PE Specialist will:

  • Have a strong knowledge of current physical education pedagogical concepts and have the ability to implement these creatively,
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate high quality, engaging and inclusive PE and swimming lessons to all year groups within the school (Nursery - Year 6) ensuring appropriate challenge and support.
  • Record assessment data and use it to inform planning.
  • Supervise students during PE lessons, activities, and events, ensuring the highest standards of safety and conduct.
  • Will have a track record of exceptional pastoral care and be able to prioritise the happiness and wellbeing of all students;
  • Attend and contribute to all scheduled fixtures and events, including those that take place on weekends within Bangkok, across Thailand or internationally.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of school sporting events such as sports days, festivals and inter house competitions.
  • Participate in departmental and whole school professional learning activities
  • Contribute to departmental planning, review, and evaluation processes.
  • Represent the views of the PE department at School meetings and other meetings as required;
  • Work to maintain a professional, healthy and conflict-free atmosphere within the department/school.
  • Have excellent communication skills with all constituencies within the school;
  • Enjoy working as part of a large, talented and experienced team;
  • Manage his / her own time effectively - particularly in relation to balancing the demands made by teaching, subject management and involvement in school development.
  • Promote wider participation and enjoyment in sport and physical activity throughout the school.
  • Uphold the ethos, values, and high standards of Shrewsbury International School, Bangkok, City Campus in all aspects of school life.

Desirable Criteria:

A minimum of 3 years teaching experience

Teaching in the UK and/or with the English National Curriculum will be an advantage.
