Job overview
Teacher of Biology (Senior School)
with scope for progression to Head of Department

Overview
This is an exceptional opportunity for an inspiring biology specialist to play a foundational role in shaping the biology curriculum at SPGS International School Bangkok, bringing the academic rigour and intellectual ambition of St Paul’s Girls’ School to our new Senior School. Suitable for an experienced practitioner with a proven track record in curriculum design, this post offers the scope to build a dynamic, intellectually stimulating biology programme from Year 7 through to the IB Diploma Programme in the Sixth Form. While we welcome outstanding classroom teachers, for the right candidate there is also clear scope to take on additional departmental responsibilities, with the potential to step into the role of Head of biology as the Senior School grows.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Head Learning and Teaching, the postholder will craft a curriculum that promotes holistic development, student confidence, deep understanding of living systems, and an enduring curiosity about the natural world. Combining a robust academic foundation and student-centred, inquiry-based pedagogy with an infectious enthusiasm for practical investigation and empirical discovery, the postholder will encourage students to view biology as a vital science connecting ecology, human health, and global sustainability. They will empower students to take intellectual risks, unpack complex systems with analytical rigour, and engage in interdisciplinary inquiry that extends far beyond examination syllabuses.

Beyond the classroom, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the pastoral life of the school, serving as a dedicated Form Tutor. They will also contribute enthusiastically to co-curricular activities, exercising their wider interests and enriching the broader school community. This rare opportunity will suit an educator of great intellectual energy, warmth, and dedication who is eager to build a world-class biology department from its foundations.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are not exhaustive but give an indication of the scope and accountabilities of the role. In consultation with the post holder, this Job Description will be amended in the light of the changing needs of the school.

During the opening stage, duties may be more wide-ranging and require significant flexibility.

Although the post officially begins in August 2027, we anticipate some preparation time with the appointee prior to their start date in order to ensure everything is set up for the start of term. Early engagement will be vital to help shape the biology curriculum.
