About the School
Mill Hill International Thailand is a dynamic British International School in Chiang Mai that recently opened on 1st September 2025. As part of our founding team, we are seeking a nurturing and experienced Reception Teacher to join our Early Years team and help build a warm, engaging, and developmentally rich learning environment for our youngest learners.
Role Overview:
The Reception Teacher will take responsibility for the personal development, learning and progress of all pupils in their class. Using the EYFS framework, they will create an inspiring and supportive environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and holistic development. The post-holder will engage in collaborative planning and delivery of a creative, interconnected curriculum, work constructively with teaching assistants to manage an enabling classroom environment.
This is a foundational role that demands excellent teaching practice, positive relationships with children, and strong teamwork with colleagues and parents.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning:
- Plan and deliver a broad, balanced and immersive EYFS curriculum that fosters personal, social, emotional, and academic growth.
- Create and manage a caring, purposeful and enabling learning environment that supports independent learning and exploration.
- Recognise and build on the interests and strengths of children through play-based and creative approaches.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and teaching assistants to ensure consistency and high-quality learning experiences.
- Use imaginative and engaging techniques, resources and storytelling to bring learning to life.
- Be skilled in the planning and delivery of teaching phonics to reception age children
Assessment and Feedback:
- Observe, assess and record children’s progress using learning journals, digital assessment platforms, formative assessment, baseline data and the EYFS Profile.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to children and parents and identify next steps in learning.
- Prepare end-of-term reports and maintain accurate records of progress.
- Engage positively with parents through meetings, workshops, and regular updates.
Pastoral Care and Safeguarding:
- Support the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of all pupils in your care.
- Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines and the school’s behaviour policy.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to safeguarding concerns in line with policy.
- Contribute to whole-school gatherings.
Wider School Contribution and Professional Development:
- Engage actively in school initiatives, training sessions, INSET days and performance reviews.
- Contribute ideas and energy to the school’s ongoing development, especially in the founding phase.
- Play a role in planning and supporting extracurricular activities, events, and open mornings.
- Support the school’s creative ethos through thematic displays and shared projects.
Environment, Health & Safety:
- Manage and organise a stimulating classroom and outdoor area that supports child-led learning.
- Ensure pupil registration, trip planning and general duties are carried out effectively and safely, and in line with school policy
- Comply with all safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies.
Person Specification:
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of the EYFS Statutory Framework.
- Experience teaching in Reception or EYFS within a British or British-based curriculum setting.
- Proven ability to build positive, professional relationships with young children, colleagues and families.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- British nationality and the holder of a United Kingdom passport.

- Excellent early years practitioner with a creative, child-centred teaching approach.
- Collaborative team player with a proactive, flexible and reflective attitude.
- High expectations of self and pupils, with a commitment to school improvement.
- Ability to foster curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.

Desirable:
- Experience working with EAL learners and in international school environments.
- Interest in outdoor learning, multilingual development, and creative curriculum delivery.
- Basic Thai language skills or willingness to engage with local culture.
