Purpose of Job:
Establish, develop, and manage the smooth operation of the Library alongside teaching appropriate library, research, and literacy skills to individuals, small groups and whole classes and across the age range of the AISB Primary school. Create and maintain a visually and intellectually stimulating learning environment which supports and enhances the delivery of the school’s educational programmes.
Duties and Responsibilities -Teaching and Learning:
Lead library learning experiences and team-teach with homeroom teachers across 24 classes, delivering 45-minute sessions (a total of 18 hours of contact teaching per week).
Lead as a teacher, instructional partner, information specialist, and program administrator to foster student literacy, research skills, and critical thinking through collaboration with teachers, effective management of library resources, promotion of reading, and purposeful integration of technology to support the curriculum and develop lifelong learners.
Ensure students become effective and ethical users of information and ideas within a welcoming, inclusive, and resource-rich learning environment.
Develop and maintain a vibrant library environment with a diverse collection of books and resources that reflect and represent the diversity of the AISB Primary School community.
Teach library-based lessons aligned with the needs of AISB Primary School.
Explicitly teach and support the development of research and independent study skills through structured learning experiences.
Curriculum Involvement:
Work with teachers to create and implement a whole-school information literacy plan, integrating information literacy skills across the curriculum.
Develop and maintain curated book lists that support the development of study skills and promote wider reading for students.
Collaborate with school leaders to develop a whole-school literature plan that fosters a lifelong love of reading.
Environment and Services :
Manage the library budget to ensure the provision of an up-to-date and relevant range of print and digital resources.
Work collaboratively with the Teacher Librarian Assistant to support the effective day-to-day operation of the library.
Maintain the library management system to ensure all resources are accurately catalogued and easily accessible.
Organise and manage special events, including author visits, competitions, collaborations, and seminars, that promote literacy and a love of reading.
Promote the Library as a focal point for students in support of their learning, research, and love of reading.
