The counselor provides holistic, proactive, and developmentally appropriate support from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. This is not a role focused exclusively on social-emotional counseling or college admissions. The counselor works across the full continuum of student development, helping students build well-being and relationships, succeed academically, navigate challenges and transitions, and prepare thoughtfully for life beyond MYIS.
The counselor’s direct responsibility spans approximately 200 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, allowing for individualized guidance and strong relationships within a small-school environment.

Lead the implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) across the school, grounded in the principles of Positive Discipline.
Provide individual and small-group counseling that emphasizes respect, responsibility, problem-solving, self-awareness, resilience, and student agency.
Deliver developmentally appropriate classroom lessons aligned with the MYIS counseling curriculum, promoting belonging, significance, positive relationships, and well-being.
Provide proactive and responsive support for students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, or personal challenges.
Partner with teachers and parents to use Positive Discipline tools, including class meetings, joint problem-solving, and encouragement, to support students’ development.
Maintain confidential student records and contribute actively to the Student Support Team (SST) process, using solution-focused and strength-based approaches.
Participate as a member of the Child Protection Team, contributing to safeguarding processes and supporting students and families with sensitivity and professionalism.
Provide academic counseling and guidance to students, helping them understand their strengths, challenges, interests, goals, and next steps.
Monitor student academic progress and collaborate with teachers, coordinators, and families when students require additional guidance or support.
Support students in developing effective learning habits, organization, goal-setting, self-management, resilience, and self-advocacy.
Participate actively in Student Support Team processes and help coordinate appropriate academic and social-emotional supports for students.
Guide students through key academic transitions, including movement between school divisions and into Secondary School.
Collaborate with academic coordinators to support course selection and academic pathway planning, ensuring choices align with student strengths, interests, graduation requirements, and future aspirations.
Help students understand the connection between their current learning, academic choices, future study, and career possibilities.
Work with teachers and families to identify barriers to student success and develop coordinated, student-centered approaches to support progress.
Lead a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate college and career guidance program, with career awareness beginning in the Middle Years and increasingly individualized university planning in High School.
Guide High School students through university and career planning, including academic pathway planning, goal-setting, university research, application timelines, and decision-making.
Organize and deliver workshops for students and families on university admissions, scholarships, financial aid, application processes, and post-secondary pathways.
Develop relationships with universities worldwide and maintain up-to-date knowledge of international admissions trends and requirements.
Support students in preparing application materials, including essays, recommendations, resumes, portfolios, and other required documentation.
Coordinate transcripts, school profiles, letters of recommendation, and other school-based components of university applications.
Provide career exploration resources, assessments, and learning opportunities for Middle Years and High School students.
Collaborate with academic coordinators to ensure course selections support graduation requirements and students’ intended university majors, career pathways, and post-secondary options.
Work closely with small graduating classes, providing highly personalized guidance while emphasizing student voice, ownership, family partnership, and long-term decision-making skills.
Track and maintain records related to university applications, offers, acceptances, scholarships, and post-secondary destinations.
Support smooth transitions between school divisions, Early Years, Elementary, Middle School, and High School, helping students develop belonging, confidence, and readiness at each stage.
Liaise with the Admissions Team to support new student onboarding, including admissions observations, family consultations, and recommendations.
Assist with school tours and external partnerships by sharing the school’s counseling and Positive Discipline philosophy with prospective families and visitors.
Lead new student orientations, ensuring students and families feel welcomed, connected, and supported in their transition to MYIS.
Provide follow-up check-ins and personalized support for newly enrolled students and families.
Lead parent education sessions related to Positive Discipline, SEL, student well-being, academic development, transitions, and college and career readiness.
Collaborate with teachers and administration to strengthen advisory, health, and well-being programs.
Contribute to community events, accreditation processes, and whole-school initiatives.
Serve as the Service as Action Coordinator, leading program logistics and supporting the MYP/AP Coordinators in incorporating Service as Action into Secondary School units.
Keep current with innovative and evidence-informed practices in school counseling, Positive Discipline, SEL, academic counseling, and international university admissions.
Provide professional development for staff on Positive Discipline, student well-being, and relevant counseling practices.
Promote student leadership opportunities and support extracurricular activities that develop respect, responsibility, cooperation, agency, and belonging.
Assist with crisis response using approaches that prioritize student safety, dignity, relationships, and appropriate follow-up.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture where students feel known, valued, supported, and empowered.
Become an active member of relevant Bangkok and international school counselor networks and remain abreast of professional learning, university admissions developments, and resources that benefit MYIS students.
Qualified and experienced as a comprehensive school counselor, with the ability to support students’ social-emotional, academic, and college and career development.
Knowledgeable about child and adolescent development across a broad PreK–12 age range.
Trained in Positive Discipline, with experience implementing its approaches in schools; certification strongly preferred.
Experienced in individual, small-group, classroom, and systems-level counseling approaches.
Experienced in international school counseling, including academic guidance and college and career counseling.
Knowledgeable about international university admissions and a range of post-secondary pathways.
Demonstrates respect, empathy, discretion, sound judgment, and encouragement in interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
Skilled in collaborating with teachers, families, academic leaders, student support teams, universities, and external professionals.
Able to balance proactive programming with responsive student support and individual case management.
