The Key Stage 1 Class Teacher has responsibility for securing the highest standards of achievement, specific to the year group, subjects, and students that they teach. This occurs through excellent teaching, effective monitoring, evaluation and review of learning progress and teaching outcomes, and setting targets for improvement. Each year group operates as a tight-knit unit, ensuring that all children receive the same opportunities, and that all Class Teachers feel supported as part of a strong team. The Class Teacher works closely with a Learning Assistant, who plays a key role in supporting the learning and progress of all children in the class. A range of subject-specialist teachers will enhance the curriculum.
Key Stage 1 Class Teachers take responsibility for the academic and pastoral development of students in their class. They will teach English, Mathematics, Wellbeing/PSHE, and a range of foundation subjects including Humanities, Science, Art & Design, and Drama, depending on year group structure and curriculum organisation. Class teachers will also participate in Games sessions and support the co-curricular and sporting life of the school.
The Teacher must subscribe fully to the core values of DBS, and understand how academic study, pastoral care and co-curricular activities contribute equally within it. The Teacher will be responsible to their Head of Section and the Lower School Leadership Team.
