SPGS International School Bangkok is seeking a dedicated and passionate Junior School EAL Coordinator to join our founding team. They will be responsible for nurturing and developing the social, emotional and academic skills of our young learners and cultivating a learning environment where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to achieve their best. The roles require a deep understanding of childhood development, excellent communication skills and a willingness to support the ambition, values and breadth of the school community.
The Junior School EAL Coordinator leads the development of effective English language support across EYFS, Key Stage1 and Key Stage 2, ensuring every student can access the full curriculum with confidence. They design and implement targeted programmes to develop students’ English language proficiency, collaborate with teachers to embed language-rich strategies in all subjects, and monitor progress to ensure strong outcomes. Through a supportive and inclusive approach, they help students thrive academically and socially as confident, capable English language learners.

Key Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are not exhaustive but give an indication of the scope and accountabilities of the role. In consultation with staff, this Job Description will be amended to reflect any changes. During the early years of this new school, duties may require some flexibility.
Learning and Teaching
Ensure all EAL students receive support based off of their individual needs
Support SPGS teachers to develop EAL learning and teaching strategies
Plan and deliver forward-thinking, innovative and carefully sequenced lessons which are aligned with the English National Curriculum and the SPGS mission and values, whilst taking account of the school’s international outlook and location in Thailand
Ensure that the SPGS International School Bangkok values are reflected in daily teaching content, and that there is a culture and love of learning amongst students
Ensure that the EAL learning environments are well managed, inviting and stimulating for students with age-appropriate resources
Observe, assess and record student’s progress, identifying areas for development and planning activities to meet individual needs
Take a student-centred approach to supporting those who are underachieving including communications with parents and other staff
Ensure that a wide range of student achievements are recognised to encourage a sense of community rather than competition
Recognise the importance of relationships with parents and make time to listen to them, in particular as they begin their journeys as parents of school-age children
Collaborate with other teachers or assistant teachers to plan lessons together, share ideas, approaches and professional knowledge
Co-Curriculum
Ensure that student involvement is seen as part of their holistic education
Plan, lead and deliver co-curricular activities as part of the school’s programme
Take an active role in the wider life of the school, supporting students to develop a rich depth of experience beyond classroom learning
Safeguarding and Wellbeing
Create a learning environment where pupils achieve to the best of their ability and feel safe
Ensure that students’ wellbeing and development remains at the centre of all decisions
Take a personal interest in each individual student’s development, both in the curriculum and co-curriculum, so that they feel noticed, valued and cared for
Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection by pro-active attention to policies and procedures
Recognise that health and safety is a responsibility of every employee, to take reasonable are of self and others, and to comply with the school’s wellbeing and safeguarding policies and procedures, and the laws of Thailand and any school-specific procedures or rules that apply to this role
Marketing and Admissions
Demonstrate the energy, skills and desire to promote a new school and actively engage in a range of events and activities which promote the school
Be an ambassador and advocate for the school and SPGS International
Support the admissions process by providing expert EAL guidance
General
Act as a Form Tutor when needed
Uphold the SPGS International School Bangkok values and ethos
Regularly review own practice, set personal development targets
Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance, conduct and positive relations with students, parents and colleagues
Work within the school’s health and safety policies to ensure a safe working environment for all staff, students and visitors
Take part in assemblies and other whole school events
Perform ad hoc duties as they arise from time-to-time
