
Head of Teacher (Foreign Teacher)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Teacher to join our academic team. The ideal candidate will bring strong subject expertise, excellent communication skills, and a dedication to student success. You will inspire students to reach their potential, contribute to the school community, and actively participate in ongoing professional development.
Overall Responsibilities:
● To lead, inspire and manage the department so that Students across the group of subjects have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, and achieve the highest standards.
● To manage financial and physical resources and deploy teaching and support staff, within the department, effectively.
● To lead and line-manage individual Heads of Subject to ensure successful outcomes across the group of subjects. As part of the team of Heads of Department, to drive academic leadership in the school.
1. Teaching and Learning Responsibilities
● Promote excellence and innovation in teaching and learning within the department, focusing on continuous and consistent student achievement and development, while acknowledging the need for differentiated teaching to ensure that all students are appropriately challenged and supported.
● Oversee the schemes of work for your group of subjects and maintain an excellent and close working relationship with individual Heads of Subject.
● Ensure that the curriculum is up-to-date, appropriate for the age and developmental stage of the students, and informed by current knowledge and best practices.
● Work with Heads of Subject and the Deputy Head Academic to ensure that assessment, recording, and reporting procedures contribute to improved outcomes.
● Ensure that student progress is effectively tracked against agreed benchmarks within the subjects you are responsible for, and oversee intervention strategies that are effective based on data analysis.
● Lead by example within the department, particularly in planning for student engagement, effective teaching and learning, reflective practice, and maintaining high expectations for oneself and others.
● Ensure clear and consistent communication with parents regarding subjects, including overall responsibility for using Google Classroom for the group of subjects.
2. Responsibilities to the Department and School
● Create and communicate a shared vision within the department that reflects the core values of the whole school, responds to the specific factors of each subject, and motivates and inspires the wider department.
● Lead, support, and manage individual Heads of Subject to ensure engaging teaching throughout the school and achieve the best possible results.
● Translate the whole school vision into agreed objectives within the department and include these in the department's annual development plan.
● Chair departmental meetings, ensuring minutes are taken, and follow up on all action points.
● Attend Heads of Department (HOD) meetings and represent the department in this academic forum.
● Maintain a high profile for the department within the school with colleagues, students, and parents.
● Lead the department: recruit, induct, develop, deploy, motivate, and appraise staff to ensure they have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, and ensure that the highest standards are achieved and maintained.
● Celebrate and promote excellence within the department, and challenge underperformance with appropriate actions (in consultation with the senior management team).
● Conduct annual performance reviews for all teachers in the department.
3. Training and Development of Self and Others
● Develop and maintain a culture of high expectations for oneself and others within the department.
● As a lead professional, regularly review your own practice, set personal targets, and take responsibility for your own continuous professional development.
● Ensure that training needs within the department are identified and appropriately met (with due regard to whole school initiatives), and that all department members are actively engaged in their own personal and continuous professional development.
● Ensure that best practices are regularly shared within the department, making the most of the expertise and strengths of staff.
● Ensure that induction arrangements are in place for all new staff, to make them feel welcomed and properly briefed to undertake their responsibilities.
Qualifications:
● Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Education or other related fields.
● Qualified Teacher Status.
● Experience of a Subject Head in Secondary school environment for at least 2-3 years.
● At least 3 years of direct teaching experience in government, private or international school.
● Outstanding practitioner with a strong reputation for excellent student progress.
● Knowledge of current educational thinking, initiatives, and issues.
● Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures.
● IT literate, with an understanding of the role of IT in planning, teaching, monitoring, and management, especially Google Classroom.
● Ability to manage multitask and prioritization, cross-functional collaboration and communication.
