Job Title: Head of Secondary English (Lower Secondary)

BCIS is a new and growing international school offering a high-quality British education to students from 2-15 years of age. We are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where students can develop their academic potential, creativity, and social skills.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced educator to lead our Lower Secondary English department (Key Stage 3, Years 7-9). This is a key leadership role responsible for driving excellence in English language teaching and learning for our students. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a proven track record of success in curriculum development, staff development, and raising student achievement.

Key Responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation, and review of the Lower Secondary English curriculum, ensuring alignment with the National Curriculum for England (Key Stage 3).
Develop and deliver high-quality professional development opportunities for English teachers, promoting innovative teaching practices and fostering a culture of collaboration.
Recruit, mentor, and appraise English teachers, supporting their professional growth and development.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the English programme, using data to identify areas for improvement and implement change strategies.
Oversee all aspects of assessment in English, ensuring a robust and fair system for measuring student progress.
Foster a love of learning for the English language and literature, encouraging students to become confident and articulate communicators.
Manage the English department budget effectively and be responsible for the acquisition of resources.
Work collaboratively with the Principal, future Head of Secondary, other curriculum leaders, and year group teams to ensure a cohesive and holistic learning experience for students.
Represent the English department at school events and meetings with parents.
Teach English to all students in Year 7-10.
Uphold the school's safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the well-being and safety of all students.

Person Specification
Native English Speaker, preferably from the UK
A minimum of five years' experience as a successful English teacher in a primary or secondary school setting, with a proven track record of raising student achievement.
A strong working knowledge of the National Curriculum for England (Years 7-9) or other relevant British curriculum framework for English.
A Master's degree in Education or a related field (desirable).
A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent).
Extensive experience in curriculum development, assessment, and data analysis.
Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, students, and parents.
A passion for the English language and a commitment to fostering a love of learning in students.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Fluency in English, with a strong command of written and spoken English.
Experience working in an international school environment (desirable).
