This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to refine and elevate our curriculum across the school. The role has been designed to provide dedicated capacity to review our current offer and lead the development of Science, Inquiry and Global Learning, ensuring strong connections with community engagement, charity and service. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring our students experience a rich, purposeful curriculum that enables them to become informed, confident and globally aware young people.
The Head of Curriculum for Inquiry & Global Perspective will hold the role of Continuity teacher alongside the curriculum leadership role
Responsibilities
Leading Curriculum
The Head of Curriculum: Inquiry and Global Perspectives will:
lead Science, Inquiry and all other subject areas relating to global citizenship and sustainability;
monitor the impact of the school curriculum;
strategically plan for and deliver new curriculum development opportunities;
work alongside other curriculum leaders to ensure connections and progression within and across subjects and year group;
review the current curriculum across the primary school with the support of Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Middle Leadership Team (MLT);
develop the curriculum with research-informed practice;
plan and deliver professional development;
plan and deliver community engagement.
Leading Learning and Teaching
The Head of Curriculum: Inquiry and Global Perspectives will:
develop a creative approach to teaching and learning across the curriculum which reflects and complements the school definition of High Quality Learning;
model excellent classroom practice and develop a culture of collaboration through peer coaching, team teaching, staff meetings and interactions with staff;
monitor and support the improvement of standards, progress and achievement across all subjects;
ensure the curriculum is best suited to the needs of the students;.
Leading Staff
The Head of Curriculum: Inquiry and Global Perspectives will:
lead the community engagement team;
promote a culture of developing practice across the primary school and engage with professional development opportunities;
liaise with Year Team leaders to ensure consistent delivery of the curriculum;
lead teams to support development of Teaching and Learning and curriculum e.g. focus groups;
lead regular staff meetings to support primary staff with all areas of the curriculum.
School Improvement and Effective Partnerships
The Head of Curriculum: Inquiry and Global Perspectives will:
form effective partnerships with our charitable partners;
lead the SHC community engagement team;
work closely with their counterpart on all elements of the leadership of the curriculum;
ensure assessment, both formative and summative, is aligned with key curriculum areas and with the overall need to show value added;
work proactively with other staff and school leaders (across the whole school) to support vertical articulation of all subject areas;
report to Governors;
liaise with curriculum leaders at our Riverside Campus and Shrewsbury Hong Kong Campus;
look for opportunities to work collaboratively with other school leaders in Bangkok and similar schools across South East Asia and within the UK; particularly those associated with Shrewsbury.
The Head of Curriculum: Inquiry and Global Perspectives will also:
be responsible to the Assistant Principals;
work closely with SLT;
seek out Professional Development opportunities and attend training relevant to this role;
disseminate learning from training, and where appropriate, identify and extend training opportunities to colleagues;
champion the curriculum and ensure it is frequently monitored in order to ensure all aspects provide a world class learning experience for students;
report annually to the school Board of Governors on the progress and development of the primary School curriculum;
will communicate with parents regarding the curriculum through regular Parent in Partnerships and with prospective parents through open days and through written means
The Head of Curriculum: Inquiry and Global Perspectives will:
have excellent and proven organisational skills and a keen eye for detail;
have good communication skills;
have extensive knowledge of the UK National Curriculum;
be able to demonstrate commitment to a broad range of curriculum areas.
The Head of Curriculum: Inquiry and Global Perspectives will:
promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people for whom they are responsible and/or those they will come into contact with;
form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.
Listen to and help pupils resolve a range of issues that may be creating barriers to learning;
Implement strategies and support pupils in self-esteem and confidence-building activities
