
About the Role
DLTS is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Chinese to lead and develop our Chinese Department across EY, PYP, and MYP. This is a pivotal leadership role, reporting directly to the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for driving excellence in teaching, learning, and curriculum development. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, the Chinese national curriculum, and experience working in an international school context.
As Head of Chinese, you will line-manage teachers across all levels, provide instructional leadership, and ensure a collaborative and innovative learning environment for students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Leadership: Lead the development, implementation, and review of the Chinese curriculum across EY, PYP, and MYP, ensuring alignment with IB standards, the Chinese national curriculum, and school goals.
Assessment & Data Analysis: Support teachers in developing and implementing effective assessment strategies, analyzing student data, and using insights to inform instruction and targeted interventions.
Teacher Collaboration & Development: Foster a supportive, collaborative culture within the department. Facilitate regular meetings to share best practices, discuss student progress, and support professional growth.
Student Support & Progress Monitoring: Oversee student learning outcomes, providing guidance to teachers to address academic, social, and emotional needs. Collaborate with parents, support services, and external specialists as needed.
Department Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the Chinese department, including budgets, resources, and materials. Coordinate events and activities, ensuring compliance with school policies and procedures.
Curriculum Documentation & Review: Ensure curriculum documentation (scope and sequence, learning outcomes, assessment rubrics) is current, reflective of best practice, and meets the needs of diverse learners.
Compliance & Accreditation: Ensure departmental compliance with relevant educational regulations, standards, and IB accreditation requirements. Collaborate with administrators to complete necessary reports and documentation.
Candidate Profile
Extensive experience teaching Chinese across EY, PYP, and MYP in an international school context.
Strong knowledge of IB philosophy and curriculum frameworks.
Deep understanding of the Chinese national curriculum.
Proven leadership experience, including line management of teachers.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a commitment to professional development and mentoring.
Experience with curriculum development, assessment strategies, and data-driven instructional planning.
