POSITION: FOUNDING SENIOR TEACHER OF ENGLISH
Highgate International School Thailand opened to a founding community of Pre-Prep and Junior School students in August 2026. It will open a Senior School in August 2027, initially welcoming students into Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9.
Operated in partnership with Siam Motors Group and Highgate School, London, students enjoy access to a wide range of world-class facilities within a beautiful and generously appointed campus situated in Chonburi.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The successful candidate will enjoy the privilege and responsibility of joining the school as a founding member of staff. They will, as a result, play a critical role in the subject specific interpretation of an aspirational set of guiding statements and the fostering of a culture centred upon the considered application of high expectations.
The Founding Senior Teacher of English will help to establish English as a defining academic and cultural strength of the Senior School. They will develop a love of literature alongside precise and powerful writing, thoughtful analysis and confident spoken communication within the minds of a carefully selected population of highly capable students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Founding Senior Teacher of English will:
Plan, implement and review an ambitious and engaging English curriculum for a cohort of capable, multilingual students founded upon Key Stage 3 objectives drawn from the English National Curriculum
Develop a rich culture of reading through challenging, diverse and carefully chosen literature
Teach students to write accurately, analytically and creatively for a range of purposes and audiences
Develop confident speaking, attentive listening and purposeful discussion across the curriculum
Develop students' confidence in interpreting texts critically and supporting ideas with precise textual evidence
Establish clear progression both into and through Key Stage 3, and towards IGCSE English Language and Literature and A Level English
Use formative and summative assessment to support progress and inform teaching
Foster curiosity, rigour, engagement, enthusiasm, community and kindness among the student population
Work in accordance with school policy and in the wider interests of the school
Contribute enthusiastically and collaboratively to the development and wider operation of the school

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The Founding Senior Teacher of English will:
Hold a relevant degree and be a fully qualified secondary teacher with QTS
Have a minimum of three years' successful post-qualification teaching experience
Have a secure working knowledge of the English National Curriculum and appropriate secondary assessment pathways
Be able to demonstrate a strong track record for the teaching of English at Key Stage 3 and 4 - Key Stage 5 English experience and the ability to offer Drama would be seen as advantages
Have experience of securing strong outcomes for populations of multilingual students
