You will collaborate closely with homeroom teachers, specialists and the EAL team to support students’ participation in learning and school life. We value students’ home languages and cultural identities as strengths and welcome an educator who brings this understanding to teaching and partnerships with families.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Teaching qualification in elementary education (B.Ed. or M.Ed. required)

  • Specialised Experience: Background in EAL or ESL education

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively through shared planning, co-teaching and reflection.

  • Experience or Familiarity with the PYP framework (preferred)

  • International Experience: Experience in diverse, international school settings (preferred)

Professional Expectations:

  • Language Instruction & Provision: Deliver targeted language instruction through collaborative classroom teaching and responsive targeted provision, aligning with NIST’s curriculum and the PYP framework, to support students in developing English proficiency while engaging in the curriculum.

  • Differentiation & Planning: Collaborate with homeroom teachers and the EAL team to plan and implement individualised learning goals that reflect students’ varying language needs.

  • Inclusive Learning: Work closely with specialists, Learning Support and other relevant colleagues to provide appropriate support and challenge so all learners can participate meaningfully.

  • Ongoing Assessment & Reporting: Regularly assess and monitor student progress, adapting instruction based on assessment evidence and sharing progress and next steps with colleagues and families.

  • Wellbeing & Belonging: Build a learning community where all students feel safe, valued and connected, using clear routines and positive approaches to behaviour

  • Team Collaboration: Be an active and dependable member of the EAL and wider teaching teams, sharing expertise and resources, communicating openly, contributing to shared decisions and following through on agreed responsibilities.

  • Parental Engagement: Actively engage with parents to communicate progress, address concerns and provide guidance on supporting language learning at home.

  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional learning, both school-based and external, to remain current with best practices in EAL instruction and language acquisition.

  • School Community Contribution: Contribute to school life beyond the classroom through extracurricular activities, school events and presentations, including opportunities to share EAL expertise with colleagues and families.

  • School Duties & Safeguarding: Complete designated school duties and uphold the NIST Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct and NIST Professional Code of Conduct.
