Job Overview
As the Founding Head of the Design and Technology Department, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and leading an innovative, engaging, and future-focused Design and Technology programme aligned with the British curriculum. You will be responsible for developing the department from its foundation, leading teaching and learning initiatives, managing departmental resources, and inspiring students to develop creativity, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities through practical and project-based learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a high-quality Design and Technology curriculum aligned with UK curriculum standards
- Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that promote creativity, innovation, and critical thinking
- Establish departmental goals, policies, and schemes of work
- Lead and support colleagues within the department through effective collaboration and mentoring
- Manage departmental resources, equipment, and learning environments effectively
- Encourage students to explore practical design, engineering, and technological concepts through hands-on learning
- Contribute actively to the wider school community and cross-curricular initiatives
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Design Technology or a related field (minimum requirement)
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ teaching experience within secondary or high school settings, with experience delivering a UK-based curriculum
- Strong knowledge of contemporary Design and Technology education, including CAD/CAM, product design, materials, electronics, and engineering principles
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to establish and develop a successful department
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with students, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to create stimulating and inclusive learning experiences that foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills
