The Deputy Head of Pastoral Care will collaborate closely with the Deputy Head Learning and Teaching, who joined us straight from St Paul's Girls' School and has been in post since August 2026, to ensure that academic ambition and pastoral care grow hand in hand, each strengthening the other. Together, the two Deputy Heads will build a tutor system and pastoral network in which every student is known, valued, and supported, placing as much emphasis on character building, resilience, and personal integrity as on academic achievement. The postholder will also work closely with their counterpart and the wider Senior Management Team in the Junior School, ensuring continuity of values and a smooth transition for students as they move into the Senior School. The postholder will need to combine strategic oversight with genuine accessibility to staff, students, and parents, and will play a central role in shaping a school culture where students feel confident to voice their perspectives with kindness and mutual respect, take ownership of their personal growth, and thrive both in and beyond the classroom. This is a rare opportunity to build a pastoral system from its foundations, and will suit a person of great warmth, resilience, and dedication.
During the early years of the school, duties may be more wide-ranging and require significant flexibility. At this point the role will focus on setting up and establishing many of the areas covered below.
Although the post officially begins in August 2027, we anticipate working closely with the appointee prior to their start date. Early engagement will be vital to help shape the incoming pastoral team, policies, and department procedures.
