Introduction
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced UK-qualified (QTS) teacher and academic leader to play a central role in the development, implementation, and quality assurance of the HQP bilingual curriculum, while also teaching as a Primary Key Stage 1 / Early Years Class Teacher. The role has been created to ensure strong alignment between curriculum design, teaching leadership, and classroom practice. Working in close partnership with the Bilingual Curriculum Lead – Chinese QTS teacher. The post holder will co-lead curriculum development across the HQP bilingual pathway at Shrewsbury Bangkok City Campus, ensuring coherence, continuity, and consistently high-quality teaching and learning from Early Years through Key Stage 1.
This is a bilingual curriculum leadership role and is not limited to the teaching of English as a subject.
Role Overview
The Curriculum Lead (Primary Key Stage 1 / Early Years) – Class Teacher (UK QTS) is a academic leadership role with three equally weighted and interconnected responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance
Leading the design, development, implementation, and ongoing review of theHQP bilingual curriculum to ensure coherence, progression, and high-quality learning from Early Years through Key Stage 1.
2. Leadership of Teaching Staff and Practice
Providing operational and instructional leadership for English Class teachers, ensuring consistent curriculum implementation, high standards of teaching and learning, and effective bilingual classroom practice.
3. Class Teacher Practice within a Bilingual Setting (please refer Primary Key Stage 1 / Early Years class teacher job description)
Teaching as a Primary KS1 / Early Years Class Teacher (UK QTS), working in close partnership with a Chinese Classroom Teacher through co-planning and co- teaching, ensuring curriculum leadership is firmly grounded in daily classroom practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Leading Curriculum
The Curriculum Lead (Primary Key Stage 1 / Early Years) will:
work in close partnership with the Bilingual Curriculum Lead – Chinese to co-lead the design, development, implementation, and review of the HQP bilingual curriculum;
ensure vertical continuity and progression from Early Years through Key Stage 1;
align English and Chinese curriculum to support:
Shared learning goals
Complementary pedagogy
High-quality bilingual outcomes
ensure curriculum content supports:
Language and literacy development
Academic language and communication skills
Holistic child development within a bilingual context
review the current HQP curriculum with the support of the HQP Chinese Principal, identifying strengths, gaps, and priorities for development;
lead curriculum development using research-informed practice and best practice from the UK National Curriculum, EYFS framework, and bilingual education;
strategically plan for and deliver curriculum initiatives related to Early Years and Key Stage 1;
ensure curriculum documentation is clear, coherent, and consistently implemented across classrooms.
Leading Learning and Teaching
The Curriculum Lead (Primary Key Stage 1 / Early Years) will:
develop a coherent, inclusive, and academically rigorous approach to teaching and learning, aligned with the school’s definition of High Quality Learning;
model high-quality bilingual classroom practice as a practising class teacher;
promote a culture of collaboration ensuring staff thrive;
monitor and support the improvement of teaching standards, student progress, and achievement across English and bilingual classrooms;

Leading Staff
The Curriculum Lead (Primary Key Stage 1 / Early Years) will:
take an active role in providing professional development support for their team ensuring professional growth is effective and sustained;
support teacher induction, transition, and professional growth, particularly for teachers working within school contexts.
act as a key academic reference point for English curriculum and pedagogy.
School Improvement and Effective Partnerships
The Curriculum Lead (Primary Key Stage 1 / Early Years) will:
work closely with the Bilingual Curriculum Lead – Chinese on all aspects of bilingual curriculum leadership;
contribute to whole-school academic planning and continuous improvement initiatives, supporting the strategic development of the Hanqing Bilingual Pathway (HQP);
ensure assessment practices demonstrate value-added learning;
support vertical articulation and progression across Early Years and Primary;
plan and deliver professional development for staff;
work collaboratively with below parties to support cross-campus alignment and the sharing of best practice;

o HQP at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong (SHK)
support school events;
communicate clearly and professionally with parents regarding curriculum intent, learning expectations, and student progress.
