We are seeking an experienced, reflective and inspiring educational leader to join our Secondary team as Assistant Headteacher (Teaching, Learning & Academic Standards) & Humanities Teacher.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated teacher and leader to contribute to the continued development of teaching, learning, curriculum and academic standards across the Secondary School. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headmaster and Senior Leadership Team to support high expectations, effective curriculum implementation and strong outcomes for students.

The role combines strategic and operational leadership responsibilities with a 50% teaching commitment, enabling the successful candidate to remain closely connected to classroom practice. The teaching element will be in Humanities, depending on the candidate's experience and subject expertise.

Position Summary

The Assistant Headteacher for Teaching, Learning & Academic Standards supports the day-to-day operational leadership of Secondary, with a particular focus on teaching quality, curriculum implementation, assessment and student achievement.

The role operates within a model of delegated operational leadership, with overall accountability retained by the Headmaster. The Headmaster maintains direct line-management responsibility and regularly reviews planning, implementation and impact to ensure alignment with whole-school priorities.

The effectiveness of this role forms part of the Headmaster’s performance accountability to the Board.

 

Key Responsibilities

Teaching, Learning & Curriculum

●        Lead on the quality of teaching and learning across Secondary.

●        Monitor teaching through lesson observations, learning walks, work scrutiny and student voice.

●        Support curriculum planning, sequencing and assessment design.

●        Lead professional development linked to pedagogy and classroom practice.

●        Draft the timetable for approval by the Headmaster.

Assessment, Data & Academic Progress

●        Oversee assessment systems and academic tracking.

●        Analyse attainment and progress data; identify trends and priorities.

●        The Headteacher remains actively involved in monitoring standards and supporting improvement actions.

●        Implement targeted academic interventions and report impact to SLT.

Staff Development & Performance

● Support appraisal and professional growth of teaching staff.

● Monitor teaching standards and raise concerns promptly to the Headmaster.

● Contribute to recruitment and induction processes.

Teaching Commitment

●        Teach a 50% timetable (Humanities), modelling excellent classroom practice.

Person Specification
  • Qualified teacher with QTS or equivalent.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly for administrative tasks.

  • Ability to manage deadlines and maintain accurate records.

  • International school experience is an advantage but not required.

  • Creative, adaptable, collaborative, and committed to student progress and artistic development.

Remuneration Package
  • Initial two-year contract with competitive salary.
