Position overview
The Academic Head of School serves as the chief educational leader of the school and is responsible for advancing its mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities. The role provides leadership in curriculum, teaching and learning, student achievement, faculty development, accreditation, safeguarding, and educational innovation.

The Academic Head of School ensures the delivery of a high-quality educational program that promotes academic excellence, student well-being, and continuous school improvement. The position fosters a dynamic learning culture that reflects the school's diverse international community and supports the long-term sustainability of the institution.

Dimension and scope
The Academic Head of School oversees approximately 120 faculty members and 700 students and maintains professional relationships with educational authorities, accrediting agencies, and external educational partners

The Academic Head of School provides leadership for all academic functions of the school and serves as the senior educational advisor to the Executive Board.  The position oversees:

  • Academic leadership and strategic planning

  • Curriculum development and implementation

  • Teaching and learning quality assurance

  • Student support and safeguarding

  • Accreditation and compliance initiatives

Organization and Report line

The Academic Head of School reports directly to the School Director and the Executive Board and collaborates closely with the Administrative Head to ensure alignment between academic and operational functions.  

The Academic Head of School supervises all academic leaders, including principals, department heads, curriculum coordinators, student support leaders, and other academic personnel.

The position does not directly supervise administrative departments unless otherwise designated by the Executive Board.

Key responsibilities.

Domain 1 -  The Strategic Leadership

Visionary Leader:  
Promote and uphold the school's vision, mission, values, and educational philosophy.  Ensure all the staff are well aware and integrate those values in all aspects of the school.   Set an example of a role model. 

Strategic Planning and Execution:

Lead the development and implementation of the school's educational plan.  Making sure the plans are well communicated and executed.  Monitoring the outcome and re-adjusted the plan to ensure the favourable results. 

Innovation and Continuous Improvement: 

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, diversification and excellence to the school community.

Educational Market Research: 

Continuously monitor and analyse the emerging educational trends and adjust the teaching and learning strategies to be inline or ahead of the education field.

Domain 2 - The Academic Excellence
Curriculum Oversight: 
Ensures vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels. Leads curriculum development, review cycles, assessment practices, and accreditation requirements. Drives continuous curriculum improvement through regular evaluation, innovation, and implementation of best practices. Submits annual curriculum review and improvement reports to the Executive Board. 
 
Quality Assurance:
Lead and coordinate school accreditation processes and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with accreditation standards established by the accreditor, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Office of the Private Education Commission (OPEC), or other applicable accrediting bodies. Provides regular progress reports and ensures timely completion of accreditation action plans. 
Teaching & Learning Quality: 
Sets and monitors standards for pedagogy, assessment, and student outcomes. Conducts regular classroom observations and instructional reviews to ensure high-quality teaching practices and continuous improvement. Ensures evaluation reports are completed and submitted to HR with performance summaries reported to the Executive Board.
 
Faculty Development: 
Leads teacher evaluation, professional growth, mentoring and coaching. Increase teacher retention rate. Managing teachers assessment. Identify and develop a succession plan for key positions.
 
Academic Data & School Improvement (MAP&Other Assessment Results)
Oversees the collection, analysis, and utilization of academic performance data to drive school improvement initiatives. Establishes measurable academic goals and submits regular achievement and improvement reports to the Executive Board.
 
Innovation & Data Driven:
Introduces new methodologies, technology integration, and continuous improvement in learning. Collect, manage and utilize data to drive academic improvement initiatives.
 
Domain 3 - Student Support & Wellbeing
Student-Centered Learning: 
Promote a high-quality student-centered learning environment aligned with the school vision and values. Making sure of the learning environments and infrastructures are designed to accommodate the student learning 
 
Student Development and Inclusion:
Promotes inclusion and holistic learning development in all areas, academic, social, emotional and wellbeing.
 
Safeguarding:
Ensures safeguarding and child protection policies are implemented and fully functioned.  Promote anti-bullying, digital citizenship, cyber-safety, and responsible technology use throughout the school community.
 
Domain 4 - Community Relations and External Engagement
School Representative:
Serve as the primary representative of the school.  Represents the school to accreditation bodies, authorities and global education networks.
 
Relationship Management:
Builds and maintains strong relationships with students, parents, school alumni, alliances and institutional authorities.  Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the community.
 
Governance and Board Liaison
Provide regular reports and performance dashboards to the Executive Board.  Advise the Executive Board on educational trends, risks, opportunities, and strategic priorities.  Ensure alignment between Board-approved strategic objectives and academic implementation.

Domain 5 - Administrative Collaboration

Collaborate with the Finance and Admissions teams regarding enrollment planning, tuition strategy recommendations, scholarship programs, and resource allocation.

Work with HR for talent acquisition, professional development and retention. Ensure compliance with local laws (labor, safety, data protection) and international standards. 

Coordinate with facilities team, F&B, housekeeping, security, transportation and activities to ensure smooth day to day operations.

Qualifications and Experiences
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).

  • Minimum ten years of successful educational experience.

  • Minimum five years of senior leadership experience in an international or independent school.

  • Demonstrated experience leading accreditation, curriculum development, and school improvement initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge of international curricula such as American Common Core, Advanced Placement (AP), IB, Cambridge, or equivalent frameworks.

Employment terms
The Academic Head of School is a 5 days per week full time leadership position. A (2) two-year employment contract will be provided for first sign-up with options to re-new to a (3) three-year in the consecutive contracts.  Annual performance review conducted by the Executive Board to determine salary adjustment and contract renewal.  
Probation Period
The position is subject to a probationary period of up to 119 days in accordance with applicable Thai labor regulations and school policy.
