Position Overview:
KL International School (KLIS) in Chongqing, China, seeks an experienced and visionary High School Guidance Counselor to provide personalized university and post-secondary planning support. This role offers the unique opportunity to work with a small, manageable caseload, allowing you to develop deep, individualized relationships with students and families. You will play a critical role in shaping each student’s path to higher education, emphasizing starting university planning as early as Grade 8. The ideal candidate will be a licensed US counselor with extensive experience in university admissions counseling, master schedule planning, and a commitment to supporting students and families as they navigate the complexities of college readiness and application processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one university planning and counseling to students starting in Grade 8, with tailored support through Grade 12.
Guide students and families through the full college admissions process, including course selection, standardized test preparation, extracurricular planning, essay writing, and application submission.
Maintain knowledge of university admission trends, including requirements for top US and international institutions, to offer informed advice and insights.
Develop and implement workshops and informational sessions for students and parents on university selection, financial aid, scholarships, and career exploration.
Collaborate with teachers and staff to support students academically and emotionally, helping to align their academic paths with post-secondary goals.
Build strong relationships with university admissions officers and stay updated on evolving admissions criteria.
Provide personalized support for students applying to a wide range of universities, including English-speaking institutions and those in their home countries.
Monitor and track student progress throughout high school to ensure alignment with post-secondary goals.
Master Schedule Planning & Design:
Lead and collaborate on the design and implementation of the high school master schedule to ensure optimal course offerings that align with students’ academic goals and university plans.
Work closely with academic staff to ensure course scheduling allows flexibility for AP, elective courses, and other enrichment opportunities that support college readiness.
Monitor student course selections to ensure they meet graduation and university admission requirements, offering guidance on sequencing and balancing academic loads.
Use data-driven decision-making to create a master schedule that reflects the diverse needs of the student body while maintaining academic rigor and access to required courses.
