Brighton College Vietnam is looking to appoint a Head of Higher Education and Careers to start from January or April 2025 (Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis and are encouraged to apply early).

Located in Vinhomes Ocean Park Hanoi, Brighton College Vietnam opened its first campus in Ocean Park Hanoi in August 2023. Already over-subscribed, and with the pupil roll expected to double in 2024/5, Brighton College Vietnam has a world class campus catering for pupils from 5-18. It offers the British National Curriculum, IGCSE and in due course IBDP’ needs (pending successful authorisation). It is the sister school of Brighton College UK, the Sunday Times ‘School of the Decade’ and the ‘Top School for Stem in the UK’ in 2023. The exceptional facilities including awe inspiring libraries, dining halls, expansive sports facilities, cutting edge technology, a private cinema and a 500 seat theatre are only part of our story. Key Responsibilities

The Head of Higher Education advises on university admissions, higher education, and careers education, and holds responsibility for these areas. This role oversees all aspects of university admissions and careers advice and supports with Year 11 option choices.

- Supporting Year 11 pupils with their IBDP choices (pending successful authorisation) with a view to further studies and careers.

- Develop and oversee a Careers Programme for Years 9-11:
a. Develop and maintain a careers curriculum for years 9, 10, and 11.

b. Plan and organise guest speakers to expand on a breadth of career choices.

c. Integrate careers education into the curriculum in KS3.

d. Run smaller sessions for years 7 and 8 to foster imagination and ambition from an early age.

e. Coordinate careers testing.

f. Guide pupils to set realistically ambitious career goals.

- Supporting parents and pupils by providing support and guidance.
- Advising pupils on university applications and options including offering expert advice on UK, US and Australian universities.
- Detailed working knowledge of the UCAS process and international university processes including SAT and admissions processes.
- Overseeing the writing of university references by tutors and others.
- Keeping pupils, parents, and staff informed about developments in higher education.
- Monitoring higher education admissions trends.
- Organising higher education and careers evenings.
- Liaising with universities.
- Coordinating with Heads of Department on subject-specific higher education preparation and advice.
- Organising higher education talks and seminars.
- Deploying platforms, such as Unifrog, to help pupils identify skills, interests and career profiles.
- Exploring appropriate work experience/internship opportunities including arranging visiting speakers.

Person specification
- Must have a PGCE.
- Enthusiastic and passionate about education with a sound up-to-date understanding understanding of secondary education, global careers and university pathways.
- Experience of working as a Careers Counsellor/Advisor in an international secondary school is essential.
- Knowledge of the IBDP is essential.
- A self-starter who is able to create the systems and processes to establish this important aspect of school life.
- Exceptional administrator with the ability to engage, include and empower colleagues.
- Creative and innovative with an eye for detail and a determination to see tasks through from the beginning to the end.
- Talented communicator both orally and in writing.
- Able to work successfully under pressure.
- Supportive, knowledgeable and able to give guidance and leadership to Senior School teaching staff, pupils and parents.
- Able to present a professional image in line with the high expectations of Brighton College.
